A gothic castle built between 1300 and 1310. Inside we find Palma’s History Museum, with artefacts uncovered at archaeological digs, art collections as well as the Despuig classical sculpture collection.
It is also home to the chapel of San Marc, patron of the castle.
These days many educational and cultural activities take place in the castle.
Bellver Castle location
The castle is 3 km from Palma de Mallorca and stands 112.6 metres above sea level, dominating the bay and a great part of the island.
Building started at the beginning of the 14th century, at the order of Jaume II, King of Mallorca; it was to serve as a defensive fort as well as a palace.

It is the only round structure in all of Spain; it boasts three smaller towers and the main tower that measures 33.37 meters.
The castle is built around a central courtyard and has two floors: the ground floor boasts semi-circular arches and flat ceilings, and on the top floor we can admire the pointed arches covered with a pure gothic style ribbed vault.
