Josep Maria Quadrado (Ciutadella, 1819 – Palma de Mallorca, 1896). Spanish historian, journalist, writer and archaeologist. Quadrado was the general archivist of the Balearic Islands.

 

 

 

He also wrote poems about themes of the Mallorcan middle ages, translated some of Shakespeare´s plays and contributed to the book “Recuerdos y bellezas de España”.

 

 

 

 

His work as a historian of Mallorca has inspired future investigations about our history. His founding of the magazine La Palma helped to spread the traditionalist Romanticism and considerably influenced cultural life in Mallorca.

He was a member of the “Real  Academia Española” as well as the Royal Academy of History “Real Academia de la Historia” and the Academy of Literature “Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona”.
