Landscape Worship: Interpretation of landscapes can be varied, and depends on each person’s technique.
If we focus on pictorial art, many tendencies linked to landscapes have made the art of painting one of the most accepted by human beings, as it has been in their genes for thousands of years, going right back to prehistoric times when man tried to leave his mark on the caves surrounding him.
This acceptance has meant that we are quickly familiarised with a pictorial piece, looking for a pattern or something we can compare what we are looking at with, so as to identify it.
To imitate what we see is very complicated, as the essence of each moment is conditioned at that instant in time.
The moment can’t be kept, but it is possible to link a few together to achieve an interpretation.
Kant said that “artistic beauty isn’t portraying a beautiful object, but beautifully portraying an object”. Therefore each artist has their own unique representation.
This motive, has united various artists in two different collective exhibitions that will be held in the setting of a village that is home to both art and culture, Valldemossa.
The exhibition is titled “El culto al Paisaje. Época dorada y actual” (Landscape Worship. The Golden age and now). The first exhibition, on the golden age, will unite great artists who passed through Mallorca and marked one of the most spectacular times the island has enjoyed: Joan Fuster, Joan Borras, Antoni Llobet, and Gabriel Fiol. In the second, modern day artists will unite, all on the same theme but with different styles and origins: Mariella Moreno, Nathalie Gandouin-Maillard, Esther Coll, Joan Zamora, Pilar García, Dolors Martí, Toni Bennassar, Lucia Parra, Mercedes Alabern and Max Silva.
Landscape worship is the perfect excuse to remember that art is closely linked to human’s nature and that a human’s nature is linked to his essence, and the essence is simply contemplation.
