jardines-de-la-misericordia-botanico-palma-de-mallorca-1The Jardines de la Misericordia (Gardens of Mercy) is a small, charming park that abounds with vegetation, sunny and shady areas as well as pleasant corners perfect for some quiet reading time.

Noteworthy is a massive tree that stands out in the park, it was planted way back in 1830. In the olden days this park was home to Palma’s Botanic Garden, which was established to inspire botanical studies and to provide medicinal plants to the pharmacy at Mallorca’s Hospital General.

The old Misericordia building was home to a charitable institution that included a school, music and drawing academies, a library and workshops. Presently the building is home to the Biblioteca Luis Alemany (Luis Alemany library) as well as other institutions.
In 1989 sculptures from local and international artists were used to decorate the area.
The Jardín de la Misericorida is a walled garden and access is via a regionalist style doorway.
