General data

The white Mallorcan sheepAccording to the Association of breeders of the Mallorcan sheep, there are an estimated 6,500 pedigree bred animals. 2,500 of them are registered in the stud book. The most important product obtained is the meat.

Especially the young sheep are sold for gastronomic purposes as this meat is highly appreciated on the island because of its fine quality.

This grazing animal basically eats grass and spontaneous vegetation, such as weeds and almond leaves. However they are starting to depend more and more on sowed grass, so they can be fed directly. This allows breeders to plan production and the breeding of kids throughout the year.
