{"id":9376,"date":"2012-01-12T16:36:26","date_gmt":"2012-01-12T15:36:26","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2024-06-12T12:36:41","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T10:36:41","slug":"the-hamlet-of-jornets-recaptures-the-vivid-history-of-mallorca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/en\/places-of-special-interest\/the-hamlet-of-jornets-recaptures-the-vivid-history-of-mallorca.html","title":{"rendered":"The Hamlet of Jornets recaptures the vivid history of Mallorca"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Hamlet of Jornets is situated in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/en\/places-of-special-interest\/a-trip-into-the-heart-of-the-pla-de-mallorca.html\">Sencelles<\/a>, Mallorca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The farmstead dates back to the 15th century<\/strong>, but it was in the 18th century that it experienced its strongest growth thanks to the cultivation of wine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this period, the owners ceded small plots of land to the homestead\u2019s workers and thus began to turn into a small rural center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phylloxera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Phylloxera<\/a> brought a drastic end to the cultivation of grapevines at the end of the 19th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/llogaret-de-Jornets-Mallorca-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Hamlet of Jornets is situated in Sencelles, Mallorca.\" class=\"wp-image-9360\" style=\"width:830px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/llogaret-de-Jornets-Mallorca-1.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/llogaret-de-Jornets-Mallorca-1-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Agricultural and livestock activity continued, but the number of residents decreased significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-align: -webkit-auto;\">Today, Jornets still has all of its hereditary and ethnological charm from past centuries, which is a reason why it was declared a <strong>site of cultural interest<\/strong> (a category of the Spanish Heritage Register, Spanish: BIC &#8211; <em>Bien de Inter\u00e9s Cultural<\/em>) in August 2009. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-align: -webkit-auto;\">The ownership of the estate has remained in the hands of the Planas Gual de Torrella family.
