It was once believed that the tomato was poisonous because of its red colour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The stringing of <em>ramellet<\/em> tomatoes has been a tradition on the island of Mallorca for over 100 years<\/strong>, and remains alive thanks to it being passed from mother to daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201c<em>Pamboli<\/em>\u201d, Mallorcan for \u2018bread with oil\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Tom\u00e0tiga de ramellet<\/strong>&#8220;, the Ramellet tomato, is a key ingredient in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/en\/gastronomy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mallorcan cuisine<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRamellet\u201d mallorcan tomato is used for preparing the typical \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/en\/gastronomy\/arros-brut-mallorcan-dish.html\">arroz brut<\/a>\u2019 rice dish, as well as the famous \u2018pamboli\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of our most typical dishes, it is also one of the most simple, and exquisite, and no visitor should leave without trying it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/tomate-de-ramallet-Lycopersicon-Esculentum-Mill-2.jpg\" alt=\"The ramellet tomato, Lycopersicon-Esculentum-Mill\" class=\"wp-image-6964\" style=\"width:832px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/tomate-de-ramallet-Lycopersicon-Esculentum-Mill-2.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/tomate-de-ramallet-Lycopersicon-Esculentum-Mill-2-300x83.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<strong>Pamboli<\/strong>\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tomato goes hand in hand with <em>pan pay\u00e9s<\/em>, usually toasted over the embers of a fire, spread with mallorca tomato, and drizzled with olive oil and a pinch of salt.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some people toast the bread first, and rub it with fresh garlic or add slices of garlic shoots.
