{"id":23526,"date":"2018-11-12T14:56:28","date_gmt":"2018-11-12T13:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/?p=23526"},"modified":"2019-10-15T17:52:17","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T15:52:17","slug":"the-cabrera-national-park-a-mediterranean-treasure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/en\/excursions\/the-cabrera-national-park-a-mediterranean-treasure.html","title":{"rendered":"The Cabrera National Park, a Mediterranean treasure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Cabrera National Park constitutes the best example of untouched island ecosystems in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<!--more--> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-23507 size-full\" title=\"The Cabrera National Park, a Mediterranean treasure\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/parque-nacional-cabrera-mallorca-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Cabrera National Park, a Mediterranean treasure\" width=\"350\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/parque-nacional-cabrera-mallorca-1.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/parque-nacional-cabrera-mallorca-1-210x300.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/>Since 1991, the Land and Sea National Park shelters all the natural wealth of this group of chalk islands and islets: <strong>more than 150 species of birds, over 200 species of fish, various endemic invertebrates<\/strong> and one of the best preserved seabeds of our coastline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Teresa Ribera, Secretary for Environmental Transition, announced in July 2018, while visiting the Terrestrial and Maritime National Park of The Cabrera Islands, that she considers the proposal made by the Government of the Illes Balears, to increase the National Park to some 90.000 hectares, to be a positive move.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe accept the Govern de les Illes Balears\u2019 ambitious proposal and will accelerate the expansion of the Cabrera National Park, which will go from having 10.000 hectares to 90.712 hectares.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This was one of our priorities and we are excited that we will be protecting <strong>the most important park in the Mediterranean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/excursiones\/excursiones-en-barco-en-mallorca.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Visit Cabrera<\/a> by taking the boat from Colonia de Sant Jordi port. The Park organises group visits for a maximum of 80 people, offering a free environmental education and interpretation support service.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23502 size-full\" title=\"The Cabrera National Park, a Mediterranean treasure Tourist office\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/parque-nacional-cabrera-mallorca-oit.jpg\" alt=\"The Cabrera National Park, a Mediterranean treasure\" width=\"940\" height=\"701\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/parque-nacional-cabrera-mallorca-oit.jpg 940w, https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/parque-nacional-cabrera-mallorca-oit-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/parque-nacional-cabrera-mallorca-oit-768x573.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong> Itineraries<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 Sa Blava cove<\/strong>: A cave carved out by the sea. At mid-afternoon, the sun\u2019s rays light it up, producing spectacular light and colour effects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 Na Miranda viewpoint<\/strong>: A hill from where we will enjoy privileged views of Cabrera port, bay and north coast of Cabrera. Along this route, we will observe the old crop fields, set amid pine and palm trees and a very interesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/.\/flora\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">flora<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 N\u2019Ensiola lighthouse<\/strong>: An 11km route (there and back) during which we will visit the entire N\u2019Ensiola peninsula, including the lighthouse located 100m above sea level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 Es Celler town<\/strong>: The route starts on Pag\u00e8s beach and heads inland, where the monolith erected in memory of the French prisoners that died in 19th century stands. Once in Celler, we can visit the museum, and get to know the history and mark left by man in Cabrera.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 S\u2019Espalmador beach<\/strong>: The route that goes from the wharf to S\u2019Espalmador beach runs around the bay. It runs through the most humanised region of Cabrera, between the sea and a maquis of Mastic, Olive and Savin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 Castle<\/strong>: The oldest and most interesting building in Cabrera, this castle is a must-see.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 Ses Figueres sierra<\/strong>: During this trip we will enjoy marvellous views to the south and east of the archipelago. At the highest point, we will gaze upon spectacular views of the Estells, a group of five islands, and one of the Park\u2019s most spectacular cliffs: Codolar de l\u2019Imperial.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 Ses Sitges region<\/strong>: One of the least visited regions of Cabrera, where we will see the old lime and coal ovens, vestiges of Mallorca\u2019s past.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00b7 Picamosques<\/strong>: This involves climbing the highest peak of the Cabrera (172 m) which overlooks much of the island, especially to the west.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Cabrera National Park Area<\/strong>: 10,021 ha. &#8211; Maximum altitude: 172 m.<br \/>\n<strong>Depth of seafloor<\/strong>: 118 m.<br \/>\n<strong>Cultural Value<\/strong>: 14th century castle, a declared historic-artistic monument.
