The population during the 16th century was made up of workers who were rebuilding the walls, sailors and fishermen. The district saw significant marine activity, particularly during World War I, with the building of packet boats.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The most outstanding buildings are <strong>Can Pujol<\/strong> and Bar Cuba, built in 1904. Can Pujol is a Catalan modernist building; this style is reflected on the stone ornaments displayed on the fa\u00e7ade and the wrought iron railings on the balconies. The <strong>Hostel Cuba<\/strong>, declared an Asset of <strong>Cultural Interest<\/strong>, still has a traditional bar on the ground floor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n <span style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"El barrio de Santa Catalina, Mallorca\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/santa-catalina-palma-mallorca-2.jpg\" alt=\"santa-catalina-palma-mallorca-2\" width=\"540\" height=\"453\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-10400\" style=\"margin: 10px 20px 5px 0px; border-width: 0px; border-style: none; float: left;\" title=\"Markt Santa Catalina\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/mercados-de-abastos-palma-mallorca-3.jpg\" alt=\"mercados-de-abastos-palma-mallorca-3\" width=\"350\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a title=\"Markets from the past that still have a future\" href=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/mercados-ferias-y-fiestas\/mercados-del-pasado-con-proyeccion-de-futuro.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Santa Catalina market<\/a> is a must see for all visitors.
