Va ser Rei d\u2019Arag\u00f3 (1213-1276), de Val\u00e8ncia (1239-76) i de Mallorca (1229-1276), Comte de Barcelona (1213-1276), i senyor de Montpellier (1219-1276).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">N<strong>aixement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Segons compta la llegenda, Pere I el Cat\u00f2lic no es mostrava especialment entusiasmat amb la seva esposa Mar\u00eda de Montpellier, renunciant a tenir relacions \u00edntimes amb ella. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aix\u00ed ho compta la hist\u00f2ria que narra l\u2019engany a qu\u00e8 va ser sotm\u00e8s el rei per pal\u00b7liar aquest assumpte: mentre el rei estava dormint al seu allotjament, esperant a la seva habitual amant, un seguici de religiosos, nobles i notaris van acompanyar Mar\u00eda a l\u2019habitaci\u00f3 de Pere, i mentre ella s\u2019ha acostava de manera furtiva al llit del monarca, fent-lo creure que era el seu amant, la resta de la comitiva es va quedar tota la nit pregant a la porta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:30% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/jaume-I-el-conqueridor-1part_2.jpg\" alt=\"Jaume I El Conqueridor \/ Naixement del Rei Jaume I\" class=\"wp-image-2058 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/jaume-I-el-conqueridor-1part_2.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/jaume-I-el-conqueridor-1part_2-135x300.jpg 135w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Quan els primers raigs de llum de l\u2019alba van comen\u00e7ar a entrar en l\u2019estan\u00e7a, el rei es va adonar del canvi d\u2019acompanyant, va saltar enutjat del llit donant uns crits desmesurats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En aquell instant, tots els que esperaven fora van entrar, i van fer veure al rei que D\u00e9u havia volgut que les coses fossin d\u2019aquesta forma, la qual cosa sembla que va conv\u00e8ncer al cat\u00f2lic Pere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A l\u2019alba, despr\u00e9s d\u2019haver mantingut relacions carnals amb la seva pr\u00f2pia dona sense saberlo, va abandonar el palau per no tornar mai. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">El nom de Jaume I ho va triar la seva mare, que encenent dotze espelmes amb els noms dels ap\u00f2stols, va escollir aquella que s\u2019apagu\u00e9s l\u2019\u00faltima que va resultar ser la de Santiago, que tamb\u00e9 vol dir Jaume.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>El propi Jaume relata al Llibre dels fets (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/llibre-feyts-jaime-conquistador.jpg\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.masmallorca.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/llibre-feyts-jaime-conquistador.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El libre dels feyts<\/a>) les circumst\u00e0ncies del seu engendrament:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abAra comptar\u00e9 la manera que vaig ser engendrat i de quina manera va ser el meu naixement. En primer lloc de quina manera vaig ser engendrat. El meu pare el Rei Pere no volia veure la Reina la meva mare. Va succeir una vegada que el meu pare va ser a Lates. La Reina, la meva mare es trobava a Miravall i es va apropar al Rei un Homeric que tenia per nom S. d\u2019Alcal\u00e1 i li va pregar tant que ho va fer anar el poble de Miravall on es trobava la Reina, la meva mare. Aquella nit en qu\u00e8 ambd\u00f3s van estar a Miravall va voler Nostre Senyor que jo fos engendrat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quan la Reina, la meva mare, es va sentir embarassada, arribem a Montpellier i aqu\u00ed va voler D\u00e9u Nostre senyor que tingu\u00e9s lloc el meu naixement a casa dels de Tornamira, la vesprada de Nostra Senyora Santa Mar\u00eda La Candelaria. La meva mare tan aviat com em va donar a llum em va enviar a Santa Mar\u00eda i em van portar en bra\u00e7os i cantaven Matines a l\u2019Esgl\u00e9sia de Nostra Senyora. Mentre m\u2019introdu\u00efen al portal van cantar <em>Te Deun laudamus<\/em>. No sabien els clergues que jo hagu\u00e9s d\u2019entrar aqu\u00ed. Per\u00f2 entrem mentre cantaven aquest cantell. Despr\u00e9s sortim d\u2019aqu\u00ed i em van portar a San Fernu i quan els que em portaven van entrar per la capella de San Fernu cantaven Benedictus dominus deus Ysrael.
